A Message from Mr. Ko as We Begin Trimester 2

Dear EQ2 Families,

We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday last week, and welcome back! Trimester 2 has officially begun, and here are some updates we’d like to share with you.

1. Virtual Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on December 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th this year, and not all families are scheduled to meet with teachers on these days. Families who will meet with teachers next week have already received individual communication with detailed instructions, and families who are not scheduled for conferences next week will receive additional information by Monday, 12/7 on how to schedule the next round of parent teacher meetings any day after December 11th.

Due to Parent Teacher Conferences, scholars will not be assigned afternoon self-guided asynchronous lessons next week. Synchronous “learn-together” lessons during the morning from 9AM-12PM will continue as usual.

ELD and Wilson small groups will not be impacted, and all Afterschool Academic Support (tutoring) programs will be cancelled and resuming on 12/14.

2. Trimester 2

We are now in trimester 2 of the school year, and scholars in all four grade levels are now enrolled in a new Enrichment course. Here are their new Enrichment courses for each homeroom for trimester 2:

Trimester 1 Report Cards:

Report cards for trimester 1 will be mailed home starting next week. Teachers will also share report cards with families during Parent Teacher Conferences. Although we are working very hard to ensure accuracy in every scholars’ report cards, should you believe there are errors please do not hesitate to reach out to the teachers or the grade level Deans. Grade 5 and grade 6’s Dean is Dr. Natalie Mejia, and her email address is nmejia@equitasacademy.org. Grade 7 and grade 8’s Dean is Ms. Carla Perez, and you can reach her at cperez@equitasacademy.org. We are also available by phone or text at 424-242-9212 during normal office hours.

Newsletters for Families

Have you read the latest issue of your child’s grade level newsletter? Our teachers in each grade have prepared the second issue of their amazing newsletters for our families, and they have already been sent out via Parent Square. They are also posted on our website, and you can find them using these links: Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8. Check them out!

Family Survey Regarding Reopening Equitas Schools for On-Site Learning

A survey was recently sent out to all families and we are excited to hear your thoughts about the possibility of reopening our schools later this school year. Safety remains our number one priority, and your voice is very important as we consider all of our options for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Are you looking forward to your child going back to school? Do you rather finish the year learning at home? Please share your thoughts here if you haven’t already done so.

Lastly, I am always here for our families and please email me, in any language, and I will be sure to respond the same day. Thank you for all that you do and we look forward to hearing from you!

  1. I’m not clear on the parent teacher conference update. If the date ranges are posted but not everyone is going to meet then how will those parents have an opportunity to speak to the scholars teachers?

    1. Hello! After Parent Teacher Conference week concludes next Friday, all teachers will be available to meet with the remaining families with more flexible scheduling. Parents can simply go to a teacher’s section on this site, and click on the “Schedule a Meeting” button under their names to choose a time to meet. If you try going here https://equitasacademy2.org/grade6schedule/, you will see ta blue button under every teacher’s name.

This system will go live this weekend and will work for all teachers starting next Monday. Let me know if you have any issues.
